autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">How the lace is made<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our city walking tour ended with a hike to the top of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monte_Brasil\">Monte Brasil<\/a> which overlooks the city. &nbsp;It wasn\u2019t Pikes Peak, but it was definitely a \u201chill climb\u201d!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On our last day in Terceira, we watched the \u201crunning of the bulls\u201d &#8211; <em>touradas a corda<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 or bull on a rope. The bull runs are a regular of summer street festivals held in villages throughout Terceira. Wranglers, or <em>pastores<\/em>&nbsp;hold a rope as the bull runs around the city streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event begins with a single canon shot that indicates the bull is about to be let out, so move to safety (not everyone does\u2026).\u00a0 The bull runs around the streets (with the <em>Pastores<\/em> holding the rope) for about 15 minutes while people are shouting and taunting the animal.\u00a0 After ~15 minutes, the bull goes back in the pen and 2 canon shots are fired, indicating it\u2019s safe to move about.\u00a0 Another 15 or so minutes passes as the next bull is readied for release, followed by a single cannon shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This series is repeated about 4 times using 4 different bulls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Running of the Bulls\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_i4u5GKcSqM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now of course, many people don\u2019t like this sort of thing, but the streets were crowded with food trucks and music, and the whole village was out chatting to each other and having a great time!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/moxieenmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Parking-Jam.jpg?w=750&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1552\" style=\"width:373px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We left Terceira late Sunday afternoon (6\/9) for an overnight sail to Ponta Delgada &#8211; our final stop in the Azores. Getting out of the marina was the toughest part because our &#8220;parking space&#8221; was blocked by 4 other catamarans (also part of ARC Europe) so we had to wait for them to move first. It was a lovely procession out of the harbor. The sail was fairly uneventful and we arrived <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ponta_Delgada\">Ponta Delgada<\/a> around 9:00 am Monday morning (3:00 am MT).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After clearing in, our first stop was breakfast! The food is absolutely delicious here and so inexpensive compared to the US and particularly compared to Bermuda! Next stop &#8211; the lavandaria. We could have used the marina facilities, but after our experience with <em>Broom Hilda<\/em> the laundry warden in Terceira, and seeing only a single dryer, we took it across the street and paid a little extra for someone to do it for us! She even folded it and it came back smelling so nice. Such a treat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the laundry was sorted, the next task was to forage for food&#8230;. there are lots of small grocery stores, with limited selection, but we found a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solmar.pt\/\">SolMar<\/a> (the logo looks a lot like Walmart) that had everything we needed &#8211; and some things we didn&#8217;t need! Eventually we also found a fabulous farmer&#8217;s market!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/moxieenmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/San-Miguel.jpg?w=750&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1572\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had a bus tour of San Miguel highlighting the volcanic formations of peaks and craters that are lush and beautiful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday evening, we had the prize-giving dinner!
