Day 9 – Th (5/30)
Pretty rough conditions – winds in the high twenties and gusts in the thirties – until late in the evening. This means large waves – maybe 14ft for the big ones. It’s pretty awesome to look up from the troughs as these huge mountains of water approach and then slip under us. Sometimes they break underneath the hull and make a huge racket – so much power. (Noise below). Rachael, who is very light, says she feels like a popcorn kernel because she gets some “air” when trying to sleep in the aft bunk and one of these monsters rolls through.
As it turned out, we had sustained winds in the mid 30s for most of the evening. It’s impossible to sleep with all the banging and thrashing about and the crew is exhausted – especially the Captain. ( Wind video). All on board will be glad when we get out of the “gale/high seas” zone shown on the weather map.
Making good miles but struggling to hold an easterly course. < 500 nm to go!
Hello!
I do love popcorn🤣 but I like sleep as well. Hope the swells got lessened so the crew could get some sleep. Hope captain got some rest as well. We watched the movie Boys in The Boat last night. Great flick and although a very different experience than yours… we still thought about your trip a lot. Not sure I am strong enough to endure what ya all are doing! Super impressed with what you are doing and a bit jealous of the time ya get together and the comraderie. You are doing what most people will never have the opportunity to do. You are succeeding in your dreams and living life as you choose and that is commendable. Keep working out! With that fitness plan you are on🤣 your bodies are going to be so buff when you return. We pray for your safety and we pray for good winds and smoother sailing. Keep posting. A photo of Janice would be cool too. We have not seen videos so I am not sure if you will send them when ya get to Azores. Either way…. Keep posting stories so we can continue our travel with you. Thanks!! Shellacker
