After 5 wonderful weeks back in Colorado – where I savored all the things I love about land life – doing laundry from right inside my house, driving to the store, and of course my long walks (staring at Pikes Peak) and Thanksgiving and a Christmas with our children – it was time to bring Moxie back to the US.
We left Colorado on Dec 30th for the 34 hour trip back to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Lanzarote was crowded with Brits and Irish looking for the sun! Our friends Helen and Klas arrived on the 31st and we celebrated the dawn of a New Year.

On the 1st day of 2026, we set about restocking the boat with food, preparing meals for the passage (to get the trash off the boat) and checking the boat’s systems to make sure she was ready for our trip across the Atlantic.
We tested the watermaker, electronics, engines and rigging. The chart plotter was a challenge, but Anthony figured it out (at least for now).
Next was to replace the plumbing in the port head!
A strong weather system was moving across the island with high winds and strong winds so we were happy to bide our time before heading off to Las Palmas for a 90 mile test sail.

The weather looked favorable for January 5th, so off we went. In Lanzarote, we tested the dinghy and dingy engine, made a few more meals and did some last minute provisioning before setting off for the 2814 NM trip to St. Maarten.

Finally…. Moxie is ready to leave the dock! We’ll try to post an update every few days but if you want to track us, send an email/text and we’ll send the details!
