It’s Jan. 19th and Day 10 of our passage…. Winds have ranged but typically from 23-29 Knots, although we did see 30’s last night, including 34 knot gusts!
Luckily we had 3 reefs in the mainsail and a reefed jib. Nevertheless it’s still a ‘sporty ride” especially when Moxie surfs down some of the 12-14 waves at 11 Knots!
So, we are having fun with our own 14ner’s, and just like Colorado, they have white caps too. Occasionally, they really bite us in the ass here.

We have had to keep the sliding doors closed until further notice, because we regularly get waves slamming up through the floorboards, some with incredible force that sprays salt water into the salon.
The real threat is lightening because it could do serious damage including frying our electronics! The other video is from last night’s radar screen showing lightening all around us – Yikes!
But we also get rainbows!! And we did see a whale yesterday! Actually, there were at least two of them. We only got a brief glimpse a few times, as we passed by at 8-9kts with large seas. The closest they got was about 100 yards. It’s not like we could stop and watch them play.
So – we’re still moving along…. it’s hot and muggy and we need showers, but for now – we’ll console ourselves with fresh baked sourdough bread and brownies… it could be worse ! 🙂
